Summit has deep community banking roots beginning as South Branch Valley National Bank, which was chartered in Moorefield, WV in 1883. In 1985, a branch was built in Mathias, WV with a third location established in Franklin, WV in 1987.
A financial holding company, South Branch Valley Bancorp, was formed in 1987 in Moorefield, WV, which changed its name to Summit Financial Group in 1999. Summit extended its services across the state lines, opening two branches in Winchester, VA; Shenandoah Valley National Bank opened on Jubal Early Drive and in the Wal-Mart location, in 2000.
Today, Summit Financial operates fifteen community banking locations in WV and VA. Summit also operates Summit Insurance Services, LLC in Moorefield, WV and Leesburg, Virginia, Summit Financial Services and Summit Mortgage.
